Gatema at business mission in Moscow

The delegation of ten Czech manufacturers of medical devices, organized in cooperation with the Association of Manufacturers and Suppliers of Medical Devices and Embassy of the Czech Republic in Moscow, participated in a business mission in Moscow from 1 to 4 December 2019. The mission was a part of PROPED (Project of Economic Diplomacy) project. Some of the companies are already well established on Russian market, others came to check the potential of starting new business here.

Such was the case of Gatema a.s., namely its medical branch Apollon. The main reason for participation was to make survey of the local market and to check conditions necessary for entrance of our products in Russia. Another task was to find out which types of products are most demanded in medical market and to establish cooperation with companies which could potentially help us with the procedure of product legalization and with the sale of our audiovisual system to local hospitals. Russia is traditional business partner for Czech companies. Many of them have been operating here for many years, however, Russian market has its specific rules and for successful negotiations time and patience is always required. Good choice of partner is a crucial thing - this is a field-proven fact, confirmed by many Czech companies which have been successfully working in Russia for years. Their experience is an interesting source of information and inspiration for us.

The mission itself was running on several different levels. The program at the Czech Embassy premises included information block and presentations of the Czech companies attended by more than one hundred representatives of hospitals, local suppliers of medical devices and decision-makers from both public and private sectors who are responsible for purchases to hospitals and clinics. The presentation part was followed by B2B talks between individual participants. Another event on the agenda was a visit to “Zdravookhraneniye” exhibition held in Moscow Expocentre, the biggest event in Russia connected with the presentation of medical engineering and products. We took opportunity to visit stands of various exhibitors (manufacturers and suppliers of medical devices) and talk to them about possible cooperation. The field work of the mission program included a visit to N.N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center, the biggest oncological center in Russia, and also a meeting with the representatives of the Moscow Region, one of the Russia's fastest growing regions. Presentations of the Czech companies were attended not only by representatives of individual hospitals from Moscow Region but also by experts from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Investment and Innovation. The presence of the Czech companies was supported by a personal meeting with the Vice-Governor of the Moscow region and Vítězslav Pivoňka, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in the Russian Federation, who was also present at all the other events of the mission.

The Russian market is challenging for us from many perspectives and we will make the effort to find a stable and trustworthy partner who can help us to get our product to local hospitals.
